Instructors Teaching Israeli Krav Maga Just 10 Minutes From Burlington Center
Gershon Ben Keren, grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. He first started practicing Judo, when he was eight – primarily for self-defense, as a bullied child. However, his natural aptitude for the art, saw him compete both at the regional level, both as a teenager and an adult; eventually winning a national title. Whilst at university he started working as a doorman (pub and bar security) in the North-East of England where violence was common. In 1993 whilst in Israel, he was introduced and started training in Krav Maga, later completing the IKMF's (International Krav Maga Federation) 29-day Instructor Course under Eyal Yanilov. Almost thirty years later he is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga, a 2010 inductee into the Museum of Israeli Martial Arts, has written three Amazon Best-Selling books on Krav Maga, and has taught Krav Maga in Europe, Israel, Africa, and the U.S. His Krav Maga school, Krav Maga Yashir, is located under ten minutes away from the center of Burlington, Massachusetts.
He holds two master’s degrees: one in psychology and the other in criminology and criminal psychology. Having worked over thirty years in the security industry, he has always taken an educated and informed approach to dealing with violence. Rather than simply relying on his own experiences he takes an evidentially based line/direction when trying to understand violence and develop solutions to it. As a member of the APA (American Psychological Association) and the ASC (American Society of Criminology) he continues to take academic courses, to ensure that his understanding of aggression and violence, and the offenses that violent criminals commit is up to date. This perspective informs many of the training methods that are taught at Krav Maga Yashir.
Gershon teaches Krav Maga classes every day, and although there are qualified instructors at the school, he teaches almost all of the classes, due to his passion for teaching. Gershon teaches all the Introductory Krav Maga seminars.
